Free wood chips and mulch in Ontario
FreeWoodChips.ca matches leftover chips from local tree work with private yards that want them. We are not a tree service and we do not sell bagged mulch. The load is free. Timing is not guaranteed.
What you might get
- Mixed arborist chips. The usual dump. Fresh from that day’s pruning or takedown. Hardwood, softwood, and often leaves mixed in. Good for paths, garden beds, and naturalized areas.
- Hardwood chips. Oak, maple, and similar shade trees. Breaks down slower. Ask for chips only if you do not want logs.
- Softwood chips. Pine, spruce, cedar from storm work or evergreens. Fine as mulch if you spread it.
- Wood and logs. Some crews also have firewood-size pieces. List “chips and wood” if you can take both.
This is not dyed landscape mulch, not cedar bark in bags, and not playground fibre. Species depend on what was cut near you that day.
If you are looking for a tree service
Hire a local arborist or tree company for pruning, removals, and storm work. FreeWoodChips.ca does not send a crew to cut trees. After a tree service has chips in the box, they can dump that leftover load at a listed private site instead of paying a dump fee.
If you run a tree service
Open the crew board, filter chips or wood, claim a nearby private dump, and empty the box. No platform drop fee. Exact address and phone stay hidden until you accept the site.
Where this works
Ontario private property only — cities and towns including Toronto, Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo, Hamilton, Burlington, Milton, and the rest of the province where a chip truck can reach a marked pad. Not parks, boulevards, or road allowances.
